DARTS:
CHAMPIONS Oldham saw off last season’s runners-up, Wigan when the two town teams clashed again in the Lancashire GMC Elite Super Eights.
Hosts Wigan started well and raced into a 2-0 lead, only for Oldham skipper Paul Cartwright’s team to rally superbly as they rattled off the next seven games.
Lee Williams set the ball rolling as he won his match 4-3 thanks to a three-dart average of 87.15.
He was followed by Andy Pearson (4-2 victory at an average of 76.24), Dave Adshead (4-1, 93.96), England international and man of the match Mark McGeeney (4-1, 96.74), Dave Rawstron (4-2, 80.79), captain Cartwright (4-0, 93.73) and Ian Walters (4-2, 75.9).
Wigan won the last game to make the final score 7-3 to Oldham, whose top finisher was McGeeney as he registered brilliant check-outs of 120 and 112.
BDO world champion Scott Waites is appearing at Crompton Conservative Club, Queen Street, tonight, from 8pm. The 36 year old, from Halifax, will take the oche against 16 players from the Oldham area. Admission is free.
