Webb’s waggler proves difference

ANGLING: ORGANISER Darren Webb got his reward in the latest Medlock Bridge AC open match fished on a bitterly-cold Park Lake.

Fishing worm and caster on the pole from peg eight, Webb caught a succession of small chub, with a few perch thrown in, as well as a solitary chub on the waggler to weigh in 9lb 7oz.

Jeff Dawson chose a different method from everyone else. Fishing the tip with worm and maggot on the hook, he caught decent skimmers and chub, taking his weight to 8lb 3oz to secure second place.

DESPITE wind and rain, weights were still good in the latest Todmorden AS match fished on Croft, where Wayne Richmond took the honours with his pole and tip tactics tempting 29lb 2oz of carp.

He beat Chris Lett by just the odd fish.

Lett fished the tip with bread on the hook, and it worked well to the tune of 26lb 10oz of carp netting him second on the day.

SOCIALS AC’s latest match on Tyle Lodge was fished in wind and rain, but it didn’t dampen spirits as Chris Woodrup needed 21lb 9oz of carp, ide, bream and roach.

That wasn’t far in front of second-best Steve Platts who boasted a similar net to the winner, but fell just short with 18lb 10oz.

IF there is a more consistent partnership than Dave Holland and Ken Power (both TRI-CAST Highfield) then I’ve not heard of them as every week this duo make the frame somewhere.

Last Thursday they fished Old Hough Farm where they took first and second, with Holland weighing in 25lb 3oz of carp taken on corn fished at 12 metres, switching to his favoured paste in the deeper water later in the match.

Power struggled for the first hour, but he also switched to paste down the middle where he caught a succession of tench, ide and chub to weigh in 18lb 15oz for second.

In Saturday’s match at the same venue, Power again made the frame, catching a mixed bag that included a couple of the venue’s better carp, netting him 23lb 8oz and third-best on the day.

Ken Potts won the match with 28lb 4oz, followed by Ben Clarke’s 27lb 10oz, with both anglers fishing chopped worm and groundbait for skimmers and ide.
