FOOTBALL: CARTSHAFT striker Rob Flynn scored what will surely be the goal of the season in his side’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Jolly Carter in the second round of the Midas Sunday League President’s Trophy.
Flynn received the ball from co-striker Chris McDonald as Cartshaft kicked off at 5-0 down and, spotting the Carter goalkeeper off his line, saw his speculative but precision effort find the back of the net.
Flynn said: “I have scored more important goals in my time, but this one is up there with the best.”
There was no disgrace in defeat for Division Three outfit Cartshaft against top-flight opposition in Droylsden-based Carter at Clayton playing fields.
But a 4-0 deficit at half-time, which prompted some stern words from manager Carl Worrall during the break, was always going to be difficult to recover from.
