Non-league football: Dougie Carroll was on target twice for Mossley as they eased past Lancaster City 3-2 in the FA Trophy first round.
A superb first-half performance effectively secured the Lilywhites’ passage as they went into the break with a 3-1 lead.
Carroll bagged his goals in the 19th and 35th minutes, before Garry Hunter responded for Lancaster.
Midfielder Louis Horne scored on the stroke of half-time to restore the hosts’ two-goal advantage.
Substitute Danny Mahoney pulled one back for Lancaster with 10 minutes to go, but Mossley comfortably held on.
The draw for the second round takes place in London today.
The two teams go head-to-head at Seel Park again tomorrow night as they meet in the Evo-Stik Division One North (7.45pm kick-off).
CHADDERTON were knocked out of the FA Carlsberg Vase at the first-round stage, 3-2 at home by Northern Counties East League high-fliers Athersley Recreation.
Michael Cheetham handed Chadderton a third-minute lead, only for Athersley to strike back through Jeff Thornton and Lee Bennett before half-time.
Thornton made it 3-1 for the visitors just before the hour mark.
Matty Russell’s 13th goal of the season with 20 minutes remaining wasn’t enough to earn Chaddy a replay.
In the North-West Counties League First Division, stuttering Oldham Boro were beaten 3-1 at Formby. Lee Bancroft scored the visitors’ goal from the penalty spot in the second half.
