Tri-Cast ace continues rich vein of form

Angling: DAVE Holland of Tri-Cast Highfield is enjoying a fantastic season.

He claimed another success in the latest Northern Anglers match on the Adelphi length of the Macclesfield Canal.

Using squatt and pinkie over groundbait, Holland caught good roach from the first put-in, before eventually tipping the scales at 11lb 14oz. Derek Walker was second on 7lb 14oz.

Holland had to settle for second place in the Thursday Old Hough Farm open match, with a 25lb 15oz bag falling to corn and pellet tight across.

PETER Hill topped the latest Medlock Bridge AC match on the Park Lake from flyer peg eight.

Opting for pellet and caster on the pole at 13 metres — he changed to the tip later on — Hill drew some decent fish, catching a dozen skimmers and a few chub to 1lb 8oz as well as small perch and roach.

The previous week’s winner, Darren Webb, made the frame again with a second-best 16lb 2oz of chub and skimmers on the pole and waggler.

MICK Diskin claimed top honours in the latest Monarch AC match on Monarch Mill Lodge, with his pole and maggot enticing two carp and skimmers for a 24lb 10oz net.

Ex-tackle dealer Jim Evans was the runner-up with an ide, skimmer and chub catch on maggot tipping the scales at 20lb 2oz.

I GUESTED for Tri-Cast Rochdale at the Wigan team-of-four winter league on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Burscough.

The team had no chance of landing the league, so I was instructed to go for it — and that’s just what I did. Two big pots of liquidised bread went in at the bottom of the far shelf, plus two chopped worm lines down the middle.

Unfortunately, I ended up scratching around for a few smaller fish which added up to 1lb 15oz.

A catch of more than 5lb was enough to win my section, with Steve Crossley (Maver) in second place thanks to a 5lb catch which included two of the biggest perch I’ve ever seen — one of which being in the region of 2lb 8oz. Both were taken on lobworm down the middle.

WAYNE Richmond made it two wins out of two in the latest Todmorden AS members match.

Fishing the tip, Richmond caught some decent carp that together weighed 27lb 4oz on Townhouse Fishery. For good measure, he also won the bonus peg.

Steve Hall continued his great season with a second-best of 20lb 12oz, which featured carp on the pole with worm and caster on the hook.

Hall went one better in the Diggle AC Tuesday match on Tanners Dam. He had a 29lb 5oz catch made up of four carp and some silvers using chopped worm and caster.
