SQUASH:
MATTHEW Sidaway exited the AJ Bell World Squash Championships at the first qualifying stage — but was delighted with the way he performed.
The 19 year old, from Failsworth, was beaten 11-7, 11-6, 11-4 by Chris Ryder.
Despite the defeat, Sidaway enjoyed his first taste of World Championship play.
The former Oldham Sixth Form student said: “I am just 10 minutes from my door and I have been lucky enough to play in it. It is crazy that I have had this opportunity to learn from it all.
“I knew it was always going to be tough. To come in with such a low ranking and play someone on that level I was just hoping that it might have been my day.
“Chris is No.72 in the world for a reason. He has played all the big events, but I was happy with the way I performed and how I conducted myself.”
