CYCLING:
A TALENTED Oldham cyclist rubbed shoulders with Olympic stars as a major British cycling series got under way.
Matthew Walls, from High Crompton, was among those in the first Revolution series at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
Among the star names competing were Team GB Olympic aces Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Andy Tennant.
Walls (15) is a member of Velocity WD-40, a team launched in 2011 to provide the next generation of riders. He rode alongside another Oldham cyclist, Jake Ragan.
Matthew rode in the future stars boys’ events, finishing fourth in the points race, 12th in the scratch race and 13th in the six-lap dash to secure ninth overall on the night.
“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to ride at big events alongside some of the biggest names in the sport,” said Matthew.
“It’s a brilliant experience
Amy Briggs, of WD-40 Multi-Use Product, the title sponsors of Velocity, said: “Matthew is a crucial part of team and we are delighted to be backing a bunch of talented young riders and helping them to achieve their dreams.”
