Merry Moores lifts Uppermill

FOOTBALL: HAVING lost the previous week to the same opponents, Uppermill exacted revenge on second-placed Atherton Town in FBT Manchester League Division One.

The points were secured by a goal from Matt Moores.

’Mill made a bright start and played some good football which created two good efforts.

The visitors continued to dominate the promotion hopefuls and eventually got the breakthrough they deserved when a well-worked short corner saw Joel Longmore deliver a cross for Moores to head home.

Atherton made changes to their line-up after the break and pressed for an equaliser, but Uppermill stood firm. It was good result and performance from Uppermill, who are up to sixth in the table.

Elsewhere in Division One, a 10-goal thriller saw Hollinwood beat Chadderton reserves 6-4.

Avro continue to set the pace in the Premier Division, but were pushed all the way by lowly Wythenshawe Town before securing a 2-1 win.

Springhead succumbed to a 3-0 loss at Dukinfield Town, and Royton Town bowed out of the Lancashire Amateur Shield after they were beaten 4-2 at Blackpool Rovers.



FOOTBALL: LEADERS AFC Oldham 2005 suffered their first defeat of the Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division season when they lost 1-0 at home to Rochdalians.

But they remain top of the table on goal difference over Old Ashtonians.

Lowly Santos picked up a point in Division One, only their fourth of the campaign, thanks to a 1-1 draw against Abacus Media.

In the Manchester Amateur Cup, Oldham Victoria, from Division Three, lost 5-0 at Beechfield United thirds.
