FOOTBALL: CLUBS from the Midas Plumbing and Heating Supplies Oldham Sunday League had plenty of success in round one of the Manchester County Cup.
Failsworth Athletic, who are going along nicely in the Jack Abbott Premier Division, beat Bird In The Hand 4-3.
Also from the top-flight, Crompton House Old Boys swept aside Winton 8-3 and Jolly Carter, with Lee Hanson (two), Rob Walton and Paul Brogan on target, overcame Pegs FC 4-1.
Trap Inn, of Martin Buckley Division Two, booked their place in round two without kicking a ball as opponents AFC Urmston were unable to raise a team.
But Legends Athletic, bottom of the Premier Division, were shown the exit door by Albert 1874 after losing 6-1.
The Rifle Range ‘B’ (David Giblin Division One) and Ross FC clash was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch and they will try again this weekend.
The wet weather hit the Oldham Sunday League programme quite hard.
In the Premier Division, the clash between Fitton Hill Rangers and Coppice United ‘A’ went the way of the former 3-2.
With Division One leaders Carrion Crow kicking their heels, Limeside Athletic missed the chance to go top after losing 4-1 at Westwood.
Lowly Dog and Partridge caused a surprise as they triumphed 5-1 at Oldham GPO.
HEYSIDE progressed to the next round of the MCFA Cup with a 4-1 win at Beechfield United reserves.
Goals from James Taylor and Matthew Crothers saw the local side deservedly lead 2-0 at half-time.
Although Beechfield reduced the arrears in the second period, an effort from Andrew Fulham restored Heyside’s advantage.
Meanwhile, the eagerly-awaited fixture in Division One, Diggle versus Uppermill, was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
