No whitewash for White House

FOOTBALL: THERE were no excuses from White House assistant manager Chris Still as his side suffered heavy defeat in Division Three of the Midas Plumbing and Heating Supplies Oldham Sunday League at Limeside Park.

Still, and manager Stephen Hughes, believe their side will gain their first win sooner, rather than later.

“We could well be the team to watch next season,” said Chris, “and we are going to be around for a long time. It has been tough for us as a group, but I think we are getting there.

“Limeside were far better than us and though we lost, it was a joy just to watch two teams play football.”

White House, in their first season in the league, have managed one point from nine games - but their togetherness in defeat was commendable.

The match should have been played at White House’s Oldham Edge pitch, but heavy rain caused it to be postponed at 11am. Within minutes a new venue was found at Limeside Park, the home of Limeside FC.

Conditions at Limeside were wet but playable.

Such is life in the lower echelons of the Oldham Sunday League, but credit to both teams on a difficult afternoon weather-wise.

Limeside looked a class act, while Athletic’s football analyst Billy Quarmby, in goal for White House, was left to ponder six goals going past him despite producing a polished performance.
