Mossley must clear that red mist

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MOSSLEY must try to put last Tuesday to the back of their minds when they visit familiar foes Northwich Victoria in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy tomorrow.

It was a night no-one will forget in a hurray: the Lilywhites had three players sent off and the referee brandished 12 cards in the 3-1 loss at Clitheroe in Evo-Stik Division One North.

’Keeper and skipper Russ Saunders, Phil Drummond and Louis Horne all saw red. Horne was initially booked for arguing with team-mate Andy Keogh, while Saunders was sent off for handball outside the penalty area when the shot appeared to hit him in the chest.

Mossley will be hoping for a change of fortune against Victoria. The two sides met in the league last weekend, when Victoria won 2-0.

CHADDERTON and Oldham Boro take on teams below them in the North-West Counties League Division One table tomorrow.

The former are at home to 14th-placed AFC Darwen, who shipped four goals in defeat at Holker Old Boys in midweek.

Chadderton left the NWCL Challenge Cup in their most recent outing, but a 1-0 loss against Premier Division Ashton Athletic — the goal came in the last minute — was no disgrace.

Tony Mills, the Oldham Boro manager, won’t want a repeat of the start they suffered seven days ago when Northwich Flixton Villa come calling.

Boro found themselves 3-0 down after the first 10 minutes at Widnes Vikings before eventually succumbing 5-2.

Villa are third-bottom, two places below Boro, who have just one win to their name since August.
