OLDHAM continued their fine form in North Lancashire Division One with victory over one of their bogey teams.
Fielding a strong XV and welcoming back Nick Hackman and Mark Goodman, Oldham were quickly into their stride and scrum half Will Mellor went over following a well-weighted kick from Gareth Barber.
Saints levelled soon after, but when Mellor fed Jack Taylor the skipper drove over the line.
Oldham began to concede some needless penalties and, from one of these, Saints reduced the deficit to 10-8.
The hosts always looked dangerous in possession and could have added to their tally before Max Horsfall scored a try following skilful play by Callum Meagram and Jordan McEwan.
Meagram added the conversion to give Oldham a 17-8 half-time lead.
After the break, Oldham extended their lead but then became embroiled in too many disputes with Saints and lost focus.
The niggling continued and ended with Oldham’s McEwan in the sin bin. Saints took advantage to score two tries and reduce the deficit to 31-18, but Oldham had the last word. Goodman followed up a Barber kick to score by the posts.
Martin Hamer, once again bringing a dynamic presence to the team, was man-of-the-match for Oldham.
