TONY Simcock is a regular at Medlock Bridge AC open events on Park Lake and, although he wins his fair share, he rarely lands a plum draw.

However, in the latest match he managed to pick out flyer peg eight and responded with a superb 19lb 14oz net of chub, bream, perch and roach.

Simcock used tip and pole with maggot on the hook, while runner-up John Lees, of Gilders, opted for tip and maggot 18lb 1oz of chub and bream.

FAILSWORTH-based Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) continued his red-hot run of form with victory in the Old Hough Farm Thursday open on Big Max Lake.

With corn fished at 16 metres luring 38 carp and two bream of 5lb 9oz and 5lb 3oz, as well as ide and skimmers, he tipped the scales at 57lb 1oz.

Gareth Gibbons was second with 34lb 12oz, in front of Russ Amos (33lb 13oz).

In Saturday’s Old Hough Farm open match, Power’s travelling partner Dave Holland (Tri-Cast Highfield) dominated proceedings, with his corn over pellet in the nearside margins netting 43lb 11oz of better stamp of carp.

Team-mate Ken Potts (Tri-Cast Highfield) used chopped worm and caster over groundbait for a second-best 34lb 9oz of silvers.

The Tri-Cast squad are the men in form at the moment as Shaun Paddon took first place in Sunday’s open at Old Hough Farm.

Thanks to pole, chopped worm and maggot, he caught 26lb 12oz of silvers, ide and chub.

Frank Staley was second with 19lb 10oz.

Power was third this time with 14lb 12oz of crucians, skimmers and ide on pellet down the track and at 14 metres.
