Award winners at Deema
SIX members of the Demaa Martial Arts Club in Oldham have successfully gained their black belts in ju-jitsu and kick-boxing.
John McKay, aged 40, first took up ju-jitsu 22 years ago, and has now secured his first dan black belt after 12 years of training for that particular award.
Ali Hussain, aged 32, has secured his first dan senior black belt in kick-boxing after four years of training.
He will be going for his first dan black belt in ju-jitsu in early 2014, as well as heading off to train with the Great Britain team ahead of the world championships.
North Chadderton School pupil Alexander McKenzie (13) has secured his first dan junior black belt in kick-boxing, as has his sister Eleanor (12), while Amy Sutcliffe (16) has reaped the rewards for nine years of training as she was awarded her second dan senior black belt in ju-jitsu.
Oldham College student Amy will trial for the GB team in early 2014.
Twelve-year-old Caitlin Terry – a Saddleworth School pupil – has been training since the age of three and has secured her first dan junior black belt in kick-boxing.
