SECOND-placed Oldham and leaders St Helens shared 10 games in a Lancashire GMC Super Eights Elite League cracker.
Trailing 1-0, Andy Pearson’s 4-2 triumph restored parity for the town team — he averaged 78.72 for every three darts thrown — only for Saints to claim game three.
Paul Cartwright (4-2, 88.28) and Mark McGeeney (4-0, 93.73) then put Oldham ahead for the first time.
Saints drew level, but victory seemed assured when Dave Rawstron (4-1, 76.38) and Ian Walters (4-3, 85.47) gave the visitors breathing space at 5-3.
Saints, who started the day in pole position because of a slightly superior legs’ difference, refused to lie down and won the last two games to peg back Oldham.
A glance at the match statistics showed there was little between the title hopefuls.
Oldham averaged 74.9 for every three darts and won 29 legs, while Saints figures were 75.0 and 28 respectively.
Next up for Oldham is a home match against Rochdale at Crompton Conservative Club on Sunday, November 24.
