OLDHAM’S third team were in brilliant form as they beat previously-undefeated Honest Estate Agent Division Four East leaders Sedgley Park fourths 29-12.

Early running from Aaron Flemmings and Craig Geddy put the Sedgley defence on the back foot, and after one such forage the ball was picked up by Chris Brown who went over in the corner.

With Alan Pierre ferocious in the loose, the ball came out of a ruck in Oldham’s half and Flemmings took clean ball from Nick McDowell and tore through the Sedgley backs and scored under the posts. Brown converted.

After another scrum, Oldham broke at the back, went blind and the ball skipped through the hands to Kev Golland, who dived to score in the corner to make it 17-0 at the break.

Oldham knew Sedgley would come out strong and they did, but pushing so hard in attack they got sloppy and Carl Malloy took the chance and charged through to score under the posts. Danny Simpson converted.

Sedgley twice managed to break Oldham’s defensive line to score two tries and convert one, but the hosts were not going to be beaten on this day.

The pack and backs and all the subs were outstanding for Oldham and a great team try was to finish the game off when John Souter touched down in the corner.
