GRANT Hamerton is aiming to cap a great season by starring in the Titleist PGA play-offs in Turkey at the weekend.

The former Brookdale assistant professional is among a strong field battling for honours over three rounds at the Antalya Golf Club, starting on Saturday.

Hamerton (40), now pro at Pike Fold, goes into the competition in good nick having won the PGA Lancashire Matchplay Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes last month.

Even if victory eludes the former European Tour player, a top-10 finish would mean a place at next year’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The opposition is lead by David Shacklady, who topped the PGA North Michael Slater Order of Merit after dominating the five ranking tournaments in his most successful campaign to date.

He made his intentions clear from the start by winning the Manchester Open and Yorkshire Masters, finishing in a share of second place in the regional championship and James Brearley Lancashire Open, and picking up points in the Leeds Cup.

Additionally, Shacklady won the Manx Classic and PGA Lancashire Championship.
