Mark shows off the 25lb 8oz pike caught at Ogden Reservoir
Angling:
PIKE master Mark Lowe had to borrow his mate’s net after tempting a personal-best 25lb 8oz specimen at Ogden Reservoir.
The 51 year old, from Watersheddings, spent 20 minutes drawing in the fish at the end of a five-hour stint alongside his son, Daniel.
“It was 1.30pm and I was ready to pack up when I felt a pull,” said Mark. “I thought it was only a small one, but then it turned and started to put up a good fight.
“I soon realised my net wasn’t big enough. I landed an 18lb pike a week earlier, which was my biggest until this one. You never know, I might get an even bigger one next time I go out.”
Mark is a member of Saddleworth and District Angling Society.
THE top three all boasted double-figure nets in Social AC’s fur and feather match on Tyle Lodge.
Chris Woodrup enhanced his superb record at the venue with a match-winning 27lb 9oz of carp, roach and ide all falling to the pole and maggot.
Dean Pickering was second with 21lb 3oz of carp, bream and ide falling to the pole, worm and caster.
Larry Hazeldine made the frame, with his third-best net of carp and ide weighing in at 16lb 12oz. He opted for meat on the pole.
IT was a similar story in Monarch AC’s latest match on their club water, where the first three home all tipped the scales at 15lb or more.
Regular winner Dave White bagged top honours with a 19lb 2oz catch, which included chub and ide on pole and caster.
Pete Molloy was a close second with 18lb 8oz — he had skimmers and crucians on pole and worm.
FAILSWORTH-based Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) retired recently and, fishing-wise, it is the best thing that could have happened to him as he has more time to spend on the banks.
In Thursday’s the Old Hough open on Big Max Lake, he showed his class by recording an emphatic win thanks to a 57lb 11oz catch.
LOCALS must curse when Dave Holland (Tri-Cast, Highfield) and travelling partner Ken Power turn up as they invariably dominate events.
Holland won his latest match with 58lb 10oz of mirrors, commons and f1s on corn over pellet at 16 metres.
Alan Gray, in second, had 45lb 12oz of carp to 6lb on maggot and caster, while Ken Potts (Tri-Cast) was third with 45lb 10oz.
