Water polo: IT’S been a season to cherish for Royton Water Polo Club teams - and it could still get better.
Since the Royton Baths-based club was resurrected 11 years ago it has gone from strength to strength, and this season has seen the junior teams seal league multiple title successes.
Individuals too have gained national recognition in the exciting sport.
Royton’s under-16s won every one of their 21 matches as they won Bolton and District League and Manchester and District League titles.
Jacob Darlington currently tops the Manchester League scoring charts with 28 goals.
They also won the Bolton League knock-out trophy.
The under-14s have won the Bolton and District League title; Ben Riding is the leading Manchester League scorer with 76 goals.
The under-12s also had an impressive season – finishing third in the Bolton and District League.
On the international front, Dylan Green – the under-16s team goalkeeper – is now training with the Great Britain under-19s team for the European Championships next year. He has already played for the GB under-17s team.
And under-16s ace Anna Lord is set to progress to the GB under-17s squad having represented the under-15s, while Royton under-14s’ hot-shot Riding has earned a call to join a GB under-15s training camp.
