A STARTING Oldham seven featuring premier league players Rachel Henry and Kerry Almond was too strong for Deeside in the North-West Premier League.

Oldham won each of the four quarters in a decisive 60-33 victory.

With a conversion rate of 83-per-cent in the first quarter, thanks to shooting efforts of Amy Nield and Sarah Brennan, the local side built up a 15-8 lead.

There was more fast-flowing play in the second quarter, while the defensive unit of Almond and Gemma McDermott broke-up Deeside attacks.

Oldham’s lead stretched to 32-13 at half way, and there was no let-up in the third quarter, with Henry at centre and Ebbie Danson-Chappell at wing attack. Quick release from Henry allowed the play to flow and move fast through the court.

Deeside battled hard and managed nine goals to Oldham’s 13, to leave the score 45-24 with one quarter remaining.

Oldham, to keep their focus and play at a consistent high level, were eager to reach the 60-point mark.

They did that, both in attack to defence, as they completed eight turnovers, including half-a-dozen from McDermott.

Oldham refused to get complacent and pushed all the way to the end.

“Our squad this weekend, due to many other fixtures, was low on numbers but certainly not on talent,” reflected coach Chapman.

“It was great to have Rachel Henry and Kerry Almond in the squad, but I was really pleased, with a full team effort and our consistency.”

DELPH made it 10 wins out of 10 in the OCL Wednesday Netball League Premier Division thanks to a 35-14 victory over Yearsley.

Asda Shawstars hold sway in Division One. They are six points clear of FCHO Ravens after a 15-10 victory against Goldenballs.
