Oldham pair out of County Cup

MANCHESTER League outfits Uppermill and Springhead both crashed out of the West Riding County Challenge Cup in the third round.
Uppermill went down 5-2 at Bradford-based Field FC from the West Yorkshire Premier League.
The hosts went in front early on when their lively centre forward finished with a fine shot into the bottom corner, giving ’keeper Tom Bagshaw no chance.
Field went two up when a volley managed to pass through a crowded penalty area and find the net.
Uppermill had some good chances with Jimmy Ollerenshaw shooting wide from a good position and Andrew Pheby going close twice, but it remained 2-0 until half-time.
After the restart Field made it 3-0, courtesy of a deflected shot.
Uppermill grabbed some reward as Field’s centre-half scored an own-goal, but as the visitors pushed on they were short at the back and the hosts scored two quick goals.
Pheby pulled another back from Uppermill when tapping in from close range.
Though the defeat sounds like it was a hammering, the 5-2 scoreline flattered the home side.
Springhead lost 2-1 at West Riding League leaders Ovenden.
In the Premier Division, there was double woe for local teams, with Avro and Royton Town both sliding to home defeats.
Avro were beaten 3-1 by Wythenshaw Amateurs, while Town were on the wrong end of a 5-3 thumping when hosting Prestwich Heys.
