OLDHAM GPO recovered from going behind to register six goals against Westwood at Cathedral Road in the Midas Plumbing and Heating Supplies Oldham Sunday League David Giblin Division One.

Moklisur Rahman gave Westwood an early lead, but two goals in as many minutes close to half-time gave renewed energy to GPO, who leapfrogged their opponents in the table.

GPO manager Chris Lawton, who revealed that he had instructed his players to “be nice to the referee”, said: “Westwood were on top in the first quarter of the game and their goal was a result of their early pressure.

“Their heads dropped when we went 2-1 up and when we got the third they looked beaten.”

Disappointed Westwood manager Nurul Hoque said: “The weather played a big part and the wind certainly didn’t help either side, but I can’t take anything away from Oldham GPO because they were fantastic.

“For us this is out of the blue and a bit of a setback and hopefully things can only get better for us.”

Lawton added: “I instructed the lads to be nice to the referee and he was able to get on with the game without players haranguing him.

“This is about respect and what the game needs at this level is more leadership – a manager who is also a role model.”
