Adam denies sister Sophie a first treble in family duel

TABLE TENNIS: BROTHER and sister Adam and Sophie Newton went head to head in the last round of fixtures before the Christmas break in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
And it was Adam (16), who emerged victorious as his Unison ‘D’ side drew 5-5 with Unison ‘E’.
With two earlier wins under her belt in the match, Sophie (12) was on course for a first-ever treble, but she was shown no mercy by her brother, who triumphed in straight sets.
In Division One, a 9-1 victory for Hollinwood ‘A’ did not tell the whole story as opponents Saddleworth lost four games in the fifth set.
Hollinwood’s Barry Elliott overcame Paul King after being two sets down and surviving two match points in the fourth set.
