FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town have leapfrogged local rivals Springhead in the FBT Manchester League Premier Division.
The two mid-table sides locked horns at Ashfield Crescent, and Town came out on top 4-2.
There was disappointment in the Murray Trophy competition for Uppermill, who went down 5-3 at Elton Vale.
There was also a high-scoring Division One game between Wilmslow Albion and Hollinwood, with the hosts securing a 6-4 win.
HEAVY rain caused many pre-Christmas fixtures to be postponed, giving Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division leaders AFC Oldham the chance to increase their lead at the top.
But Gorse Hill showed the quality which has taken them to the Manchester Challenge Cup semi-final as they held Oldham to a 2-2 draw.
There was disappointment for Division One outfit Santos as they lost 7-1 at Parrswood Celtic.
There were plenty of goals at AFC Oldham reserves in Division ‘C’, with the hosts beating Hooley Bridge Celtic thirds 6-4.
