Harwood at full throttle

Karting: AFTER clinching the MBKC Minimax crown in the North-West, young karting star Jack Harwood is putting the pedal to the metal in the 2014 Junior Max British Championships.

The first of the six rounds takes place on April 6, and the 15-year-old from Derker is already making preparations for his debut at national level.

Jack, who drives a PCR Italia kart for the TMR Developments Race Team based in Ormskirk, dominated at area competition level at Three Sisters in Wigan this year.

Of the 10 rounds, the Royton and Crompton pupil won half to claim the laurels. The teenager will now pit his wits against the best in the country.

Dad, Tom, said: “Jack has been karting since he was 10. It was something he wanted to do and we’ve encouraged him. He races all over the country and also in Europe.”

TMR Development race team boss Chris Norris describes Jack “as a rare talent, who consistently performs at the highest level”.

Jack said: “I hope to up my game this season and bring home some strong results for the team and for my mum and dad, who help me so much.”
