NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL:

CHADDERTON’S Matty Russell has continued his excellent season by being named the North-West Counties League First Division’s player of the month for December.

Attacking midfielder Russell (25) has been far and away Chaddy’s brightest light so far in what has been a rather inconsistent campaign for the Andrew Street men.

However, another five goals last month — which took his overall tally to 20 this term — has earned him some richly-deserved recognition.

Chaddy joint boss Mark Cook said: “We’re all delighted for Matty, he’s a great lad to have in the ranks and he deserves his award.”

Former Mossley and Curzon Ashton ace Russell scored twice against both Eccleshall and Oldham Boro in December, and once in a 6-3 win against Northwich Flixton Villa.

Tenth-placed Chaddy travel to struggling Leek CSOB tomorrow, hoping to bounce back from last weekend’s 3-0 home reverse against Rochdale Town.

OLDHAM BORO have not played since the Boxing Day derby defeat at Chadderton after last weekend’s scheduled fixture was postponed.

Tony Mills’ struggling side are set to host Atherton Collieries tomorrow, and a stern test awaits.

Colls are pushing for promotion and sit in third place in the table.

THERE’S been an air of relief around Seel Park after MOSSLEY finally bagged an Evo-Stik Division One North victory last weekend following an eight-match losing streak.

The Lilywhites beat lowly Radcliffe Borough 3-1, but they face another mammoth task tomorrow as they travel to a seventh-placed Ramsbottom side that has lost once in 20 games.
