AUSTRALIAN Peter Skuse has swapped Well-i-Hole for Castle Lane after agreeing to become Micklehurst’s professional for 2014.
Skuse carried all before him at Saddleworth, skippering the side to league and cup glory in more than a decade at the club.
But now he faces his biggest challenge — trying to lift the fortunes of Micklehurst, who have
finished bottom of the table in the two years since they returned to the Saddleworth and District League from the Huddersfield League.
Chairman Dave Radford said: “Peter is up for it and he will bring with him a winning mindset from his days at Saddleworth. He is a quality performer, has lots of experience and knows the league well.”
With the club back on an even keel financially, efforts are now being made to improve results. The acquisition of Skuse is the first step.
Radford went on: “We are trying to build a team here to get into the upper echelons of the league. We are also looking to bring in an overseas amateur, but nothing is definite yet.
“It would be brilliant to see the glory years back at Micklehurst. That would be something.”
