DEDICATION has paid off for Adam Davies, who has earned a place in the Great Britain Emerging Lions squad.

The 16-year-old second-row forward is one of 24 rugby league starlets chosen by talent scouts.

A sixth-form student at Blue Coat, Adam will attend a squad get-together over Easter, which kick-starts preparations for an eight-day trip to Malta involving an international game and nines competition in June.

The sport of Rugby League runs through Adam’s blood.

His uncle is Bath Rugby Union coach Mike Ford, who made his name in the 13-a-side game as a player and later became coach at OIdham RL. His cousin is Mike’s son, George Ford, who is in England RU’s Elite Player Squad for the forthcoming Six Nations Championship.

Despite his family background in the sport, Adam has worked hard for his place.

As well as training sessions at club side Waterhead, he works out in the gym three nights a week and can be seen increasing his fitness levels at Blue Coat on two mornings from 7am.

He caught the eye of the selectors while playing for Lancashire against Cumbria and Yorkshire in a tri-counties event, which Lancashire won.

Mum Sharon said: “Adam has worked really hard and we are very proud at what he has achieved.”
