White House 2, Alt Athletic 7
CARL Diveney was the stand-out performer as Alt Athletic secured a much-needed victory over rock-bottom White House at Snipe Clough in Division Three of the Midas Plumbing and Heating Oldham Sunday League.

Diveney played a true captain’s role, scoring one goal and assisting with two others.

Alt manager Michael Ashworth said: “Carl was brilliant throughout the game and fully deserved his man of the match vote.

“We displayed some good quality football, but we could have scored more than seven.”

White House, despite registering just a solitary point all season and conceding 87 goals along the way, are certainly not on the edge of despair.

In secretary Joan Hague, the club has a forward-looking leader whose immediate aim is for the players to fully gel.

Joan, landlady of the White House pub on the often windswept Oldham Edge, said: “I just want a bit more togetherness from the players as a whole and that is a good starting point. I am not too worried about us being bottom of the table and I am sure we will show a lot of improvement next season.

“There are one or two sponsorship deals in the pipeline and it is good that people are sowing an interest in us. It has also been nice to hear people say how well we can play at times.”
