IT proved to be an afternoon of mixed fortunes for Chadderton as they hosted Formby in the North-West Counties League First Division.

Chaddy lost 2-0 against their on-form visitors, but afterwards saw 20-goal midfielder Matty Russell presented with his First Division Player of the Month award for December.

Chaddy joint-manager Mark Cook said: “I thought it was a decent game despite the conditions. We gave it a real go, but we didn’t quite have enough about us on the day.

“Formby are definitely the best side we have played this season, and they were a good bunch of lads too. They will be up there or thereabouts come the end of the season.”

Chaddy remain in eighth place in the league table and Formby second, hot on the heels of leaders Nelson, four points behind but with two games in hand.

Oldham Boro’s scheduled home fixture against Ashton Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

MOSSLEY’S Evo-Stik Division One North clash against Harrogate Railway Athletic was postponed due to a waterlogged Seel Park pitch. The Lilywhites visit fellow strugglers Prescot Cables on Saturday.
