Ryan Davies: champ in the making
SNOOKER:
WHAT he lacks in years, Ryan Davies more than makes up in skills on the green baize.
The Newman RC pupil has qualified for both the under-14s and under-16s England Snooker Championships — despite being 11!
Ryan heads to Leeds in April as one of 16 hopefuls in each competition.
In the North qualifiers, the pint-sized potting sensation from Royton won all four of his matches in the under-16s section, but he required a play-off to get through the under-14s North group.
Guided by local coach Barry Broadbent, Ryan is also a prodigious pool talent.
Looking to clinch his place in the under-18s England squad alongside his elder brother, Aaron, he missed after losing his game in the trials staged in Leicester.
Proud Dad Martin said: “Ryan was gutted after Leicester, but the way he played in the England Snooker Championship qualifiers has given him a real boost.
“He is playing very well. He practises four or five nights a week at the Oldham Snooker Academy with his brother and that hard work has seemingly paid off.”
