Lowe’s the main man

RUGBY: WATERHEAD’S Dale Lowe went one better than 12 months earlier after claiming the Rugby Oldham man-of-steel award sponsored by Joseph Parr (Alco) Ltd.
The hooker shared the £500 prize the previous season with Jordan Galloway, of Oldham St Anne’s.
But, with eight man-of-the-match awards, each one nominated by the opposing team, Lowe was clear of Saddleworth Rangers duo Eric Johnson and Ryan Moore, who had six and five nominations respectively.
The Rugby Oldham Challenge Trophy went to North-West Counties League side Higginshaw, with secretary John Mellor on hand to receive the silverware.
It rewards success no matter what level a club competes in and is devised so that any club affiliated to the Oldham Amateur League could emerge as champions.
Higginshaw’s win ratio to games played was superior to that of any other club and their points scoring and defensive records were as good or better than their rivals.
