Non-league football: IT’S close at the bottom of Evo-Stik Division One North, so Mossley could do with stringing together good results.

The Lilywhites are in 16th place following a miserable run of 10 defeats in 11 games, but tomorrow they travel to a Prescot Cables side who are six points behind them and deep in relegation trouble.

Mossley joint-boss Peter Band said: “We’ve got a really crucial run of fixtures. Over the next five matches we play four teams around us at the bottom (Cables, Ossett, Northwich and Wakefield) so we need to get some positive results. To be honest, we deserve to be down there if we can’t beat some of these teams.

“It’s a bit like the Premier League. If we could just win two or three games back-to-back we would shoot right up the table again.”

There is mixed news on the player front for the Lilywhites. Dean Warburton is out through suspension, while recent capture Martin Cosgrave was injured in Tuesday’s 2-1 friendly defeat against Curzon Ashton and is rated as doubtful.

On the positive side, Ryan Marley returns from a spell out injured, while winger Luke McCarthy is back in the fold after turning down a move to Nantwich Town.

CHADDERTON have a great chance to bounce back from last weekend’s North-West Counties League First Division defeat against Formby.

The eighth-placed Butterworth Street men head to Bolton to take on a Daisy Hill side who are third-bottom in the table.

Joint-manager Mark Cook said: “Confidence is still high in the squad. “I think Formby will win the league this season, but we matched them for large periods of the game.”

OLDHAM BORO, who have no fixture tomorrow, return to action on Monday night, at home to Atherton Collieries. Boro have not kicked a ball in anger since Boxing Day following four straight

postponements.
