FIRST there was Ben Dunk, then Timycen Maruma and now Pieter Malan.
Royton Cricket Club have finally got their pro for 2014. Zimbabwean Maruma was refused clearance by the England and Wales Cricket Board, while Dunk is nursing a wrist injury that rules him out of the English cricket season
Malan has lots of experience in this country and looks a shrewd signing. The 24-year-old opening batsman will be familiar to Royton fans as he acted as deputy pro for Luke Procter in 2011. He has also stood in at Heyside in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
Malan made his first-class debut for Northerns in 2007 and has more recently played for Barrow and Ramsbottom.
Delighted Royton first-team skipper Denny Hulme said: “Pieter is a belter of a signing and the lads are over the moon. With Alan Durose coming back, we’ve got a well-balanced team for the Premier Division.”
