Angling: THE DAWSON clan dominated the B&J open on the vinegar works length of the Rochdale Canal.
Drawn near the black pipe, Andy Dawson scooped the spoils using bread punch for skimmers to 12 ounces which enticed a 3lb 14oz bag.
Dad Dave had to settle for second place, and again it was skimmers which made up most of his 2lb 14oz catch. He also used bread punch.
STEVE Michaels of Tri-Cast showed he doesn’t just manufacture good fishing tackle, he knows how to use it too!
He claimed top honours in the Non Bye Go silvers match, tipping 30lb 11oz on to scales.
Darren Briggs was in second place with 24lb 6oz.
ROUND three of the Twingates AC Winter League on the club water was won by Mark Derbyshire, who used an 11-metre pole and maggot for 9lb 12oz of roach and ide. Geoff Ogden (Tight Lines) was
second with his roach and ide catch weighing a level 5lb. He opted for the pole and pinkie.
Twingates AC hold their annual meeting on February 27 at Crompton Cricket Club, Glebe Street, Shaw (8.15pm).
I COMPETED in the B&J open match on the Boat and Horses length of the Rochdale Canal where, despite strong winds, everyone weighed in more than a pound.
Organiser John Edwards was an impressive winner, opting for bread punch at eight metres for 170 roach that tipped the scales at 5lb 12oz.
Dave Chadwick (Matrix Halifax) was also among the roach, hooking 70 of them on bread punch at five and eight metres, for 2lb 8oz.
I was third, with bread punch at seven, nine and 11 metres tempting 45 roach and a solitary perch for a 2lb 7oz 8drams bag.
I ALSO fished the Wigan AA match on the Botany Bay length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and cut off channel.
Some of the pegs were moved due to the strong winds and heavy rain but it made little difference.
I was drawn on the cut off channel. I claimed top weight in that area and fifth place overall with eight roach for 1lb 1oz. Gary Marchant was the clear-cut winner thanks to 5lb 14oz of skimmers on punched bread and caster at 13 metres.
Rob Porter, the runner-up, had 2lb 14oz of roach and skimmers.
COMPETITORS overcame strong winds and driving rain in the Todmorden AS members match on Croft Fishery, where Chris Lett claimed top honours. He opted for the pole and corn for 26lb 8oz of carp.
Steve Hall used the tip and bread for a second-best 22lb 5oz of carp, with Pete Fitton employing similar tactics for 19lb 6oz of carp.
