NETBALL:

GEMMA McDermott was the star of the show as Oldham hammered Halton 79-22.

McDermott produced 13 interceptions to gain the player of the match award — her second such honour against Halton this season.

“Gemma was outstanding throughout the game and I was really pleased to see her developing some new aspects of her play,” said coach Suzy Chapman.

“it was a very successful day for Oldham Netball Club; we are still up there competing for that first position.”

Oldham dominated from the off, with strong defence. McDermott gained 10 interceptions in the first quarter alone and Amy Clinton made every one of her 21 shots count for a 23-5 lead.

The second quarter score was a hardly less emphatic 19-5. Sarah Brennan got into the scoring in the third, Oldham managing 18 turnovers for a 21-4 quarter triumph.

And with McDermott given a well-deserved rest, Abigail Tyrell came on as a replacement for a final quarter which ended prematurely due to Halton running out of substitutes through injuries.
