ANGLING: ROUND four of the Twingates AC Winter League fished on the club water saw Geoff Ogden (Tight Lines) take first place with his 8lb 8oz catch made up of ide, roach and skimmers.

Aiden Bordiak of Tight Lines was second, with 7lb 9oz of skimmers, ide and roach.

Dave White dominated the latest of the Twingates AC OAP matches on the club water, with his 8lb catch made up of silvers easily beating Mick Diskin (3lb 14oz) into second.

CHRIS Oliver took first place in the Todmorden AS members match on Croft. Fishing the pole and tip with pellet and maggot on the hook, Oliver caught plenty of decent-sized carp, weighing in 50lb.

Steve Hall was second with tip and bread working well as he netted himself 28lb 9oz of carp.

DAVE Holland (Tricast Highfield) returned to winning ways in the Sunday open at Old Hough Fishery where he fished corn at seven metres, catching 28lb 15oz of barbel and carp.

Steve Jones was second with 16lb 4oz, followed by James Cantello’s 16lb catch which included three big chub that tipped the scales at 3lb apiece.

THE Slaithwaite Pairs league fished on Sparth Reservoir has been unproductive, and that continued in the penultimate round as winner Neil Burrows needed only a dozen roach for 1lb 15oz, taken on maggot fished over joker.

Top pair were Steve Allinson and Craig Ellis with 11 points. With just one round to go, Ellis and Allinson are leading with 40 points, followed by Keith Heninghan and Harman with 34.

I TOOK part in two Wigan AA matches on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal this week, starting at Burscough, where I drew a decent peg which had some past form for roach.

But with a tall building being converted on the far bank and debris landing in the canal, I wasn’t too sure if the fish would stay there.

Alas, they did not as I caught only small roach in short bursts throughout the event to finish with 2lb 8oz.

My second match was on Wednesday in Wigan town centre, a stone’s throw from the famous Wigan Pier.

With a howling wind battering us for the full four hours, it was really hard going, but there were no complaints as the fishing itself was brilliant. Bread punch fished at seven and 11 metres saw me catch a 1lb 8oz skimmer and loads of roach which together weighed 8lb 14oz 8 drams, which was was good enough for second place.
