Ashley Mayall: wants a double
BOXING: ASHLEY Mayall will be on the first of two pre-title shot missions on Saturday when he steps into the ring at a packed Oldham Sports Centre.
Local favourite and light-welterweight prospect Mayall (23) faces ‘Dirty’ Dan Carr this weekend in a four-round clash in which he will bid to extend his professional record to five wins from eight fights.
Mayall will go on to face Kirby’s Robbie Davies jnr on Saturday week at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, but the Northside Gym star only has thoughts on back-to-back wins - as brighter lights will surely then follow.
“Fighting Carr on Saturday is important for me. If I can beat him and then beat Davies, hopefully I’ll be in title reckoning again. That’s the plan anyway, so these two fights are crucial.
“I can’t wait for Saturday. It’s going to be packed, the atmosphere will be great and for me personally – well you can’t beat fighting in front of your home crowd.”
Very few tickets, priced at £30 (general) and £60 (ringside), are available. Details: vipbe.co.uk
