Band predicting Laird dogfight

MOSSLEY face one of their toughest Evo-Stik Division One North tasks of the season tomorrow when they travel to Merseyside to take on Cammell Laird.

Though this isn’t a tussle with a league leader — Laird are 10th — regional rivalry always plays a part when teams from opposite ends of the East Lancs Road go toe-to-toe.

Mossley joint-boss Peter Band said: “It’s the old Manchester-Merseyside thing isn’t it?

“When teams like us go over there they always make life difficult, and it’s the same when Liverpool sides come here. There’s always that added spice.

“We need lads in the team prepared to roll their sleeves up for a real dogfight.

“We’ve got nine games left now and me and Lloyd (Morrison, fellow joint team-boss) will be demanding complete effort. We might be 12 points clear of relegation places, but we’re not safe yet.”

CHADDERTON have slipped back into mid-table in the North-West Counties League First Division thanks to a winless run of five games.

They have a strong chance to get back to winning ways as they host 14th-placed Widnes Vikings.

Chaddy will be without top scorer Matty Russell (see separate story), while centre-back Michael Cheetham is doubtful with an ankle injury.

OLDHAM BORO could do with a pick-me-up tomorrow as they host second-bottom Eccleshall. Tony Mills’ men will de desperate to bounce back from Monday night’s 6-0 home thrashing by Nelson.
