ANDY Kremner enjoyed a successful amateur career.
Boxing: DELPH hopeful Andy Kremner is finally about to take the first step on what he hopes will be the road to a British title.
Light-welterweight Kremner (21) is now ready to make the step up after an impressive amateur career, and will make his professional debut at the Wythenshawe Forum on April 5, against an as yet unnamed opponent.
An Oldham policeman, Kremner has signed a three-fight management deal with Michael Marsden and is currently being trained in Failsworth by John Murray.
Murray is still an active boxer, preparing to take on Chadderton-based Anthony Crolla for the WBO inter-continental lightweight title in April in what has been dubbed the ‘Battle of Manchester’.
Kremner said: “It seems to have been a long road since I decided to turn professional last summer.
“There were one or two issues outside the ring to sort out, but I’m ready now.
“I’ve been training hard with John in Failsworth. We’ve also had some great sparring sessions.
“I had a decent amateur career, but now is the time to try to make it in the pro game. My initial ambition is to win the British title.
“There’s not been many pro boxers from Saddleworth — in fact I’m not sure there’s ever been any — so I’m hoping I can get my new career off to a good start and then hopefully I can get a bit of a fan base going.
