Twin peak for veteran Mick

Date published: 21 March 2014

TWINGATES AC held their latest pensioners’ match on the club water and found it in good form, with Mick Diskin grabbing first place with 12lb of ide, skimmers and roach.

Geoff Carr was second with ide, skimmers, goldfish and others.

KEN Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) bounced back to winning form in the Old Hough Farm open on the Upper Benbo Lake.

Fishing corn and pellet tight to the island at 16 metres, Power caught 40lb 13oz of carp to beat team-mate Dave Holland into second with 38lb 9oz of carp taken tight over and down the track.

A second match at the venue again saw Cantello and Power in the money, the former second with 48lb 6oz and his granddfather third with 29lb 11oz. Power had made a disastrous start with three tiny fish after three hours.

PETE Eastwood won the latest Todmorden AS match fished on an in-form Townhouse Fishery.
His method feeder approach worked well as he netted himself 39lb of carp. Pete Mottram chose the long pole and corn as feed on the hook, netting plenty of carp and silvers for a second-best 37lb 1oz.

Todmorden are restocking several of their waters with f1s next Wednesday, with Portsmouth Reservoir getting 400lb, Croft 500lb, Townhouse 500lb, Grove 100lb and Cliviger 500lb.

No keepnets are allowed for a month after restocking, apart from in official Todmorden AS matches.

I TRIED out some new floats I have made and found small roach in abundance on the long-tunnel length of the Rochdale canal near Sowerby Bridge.
A small ball of “liccy” at just four metres, a four-number 12-chianti type float with a wire stem and 20s B511 with bread punch on the hook saw me catching a fish every put-in for two hours.

I fed just three times throughout and ended the day with 3lb of mostly small roach, with the odd four or five-ounce fish mixed in.

This canal can be difficult, but with a little local knowledge and careful feeding you can have a really good day’s fishing.
