Ref’s red alert as game is stopped

FOOTBALL: THERE was drama in FBT Manchester League Division One clash between Heywood St James’ and Hollinwood.

The match was abandoned by the referee in the second half after he had sent off FIVE of the hosts’ players. No decision has yet been made on a possible replay.

The referee halted proceedings in the second half with the score at 3-3.

Meanwhile, Avro’s hopes of landing the Manchester FA Challenge Trophy were thwarted by East Manchester. In the final at Curzon Ashton FC they were beaten 1-0, with the only goal coming in the first half. Leaders Royton Town and Springhead had no games.


HEYSIDE remain on the fringe of the race for promotion from Huddersfield League Division Two following a 1-1 draw at Honley.
A slow start saw Heyside behind after five minutes, a score that remained until the interval.

The visitors began the second period with much more purpose and intensity, and levelled the score on the hour courtesy of Andrew Fulham.

The visitors took the game to Honley but couldn’t find another breakthrough. The score stayed 1-1.

Diggle crashed out of the Huddersfield FA Cup as they were beaten 7-2 at Storthes Hall, while in Division One it was an awful day for Uppermill, on the wrong end of an 8-1 hiding at home to Hepworth.


JOLLY Carter were in a mean mood as they crushed FC Dynamos 7-1 to move into the semi-finals of the Midas Plumbing and Heating Oldham Sunday League President’s Trophy.
Dane Leigh (two), Dale Cook, Dan Watson, Paul Collins, Rob Walton and Darren Walsh scored for the dominant Jolly boys.

In David Giblin Division One, Abul Hussain and Moklisur Rahman netted for Westwood FC as they edged out Rifle Range ‘B’ 2-1.

Dog and Partridge triumphed 1-0 at Saddleworth.

James Green bagged four goals in the only Martin Buckley Division Two game played as Royton Athletic won 6-0 at All Stars.

Anthony Walsh and Stephen Palfreyman also netted for Athletic.
