KO as Heyside let slip big lead
Date published: 28 March 2014
Heyside bowed out of the Huddersfield League Barlow Cup at the quarter-final stage as they lost 4-3 at First Division side Scholes.
Playing with the advantage of the slope and with the wind at their backs, Heyside surged into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes thanks to goals from Andrew Fulham (two) and Niall Barnes.
Further excellent saves from the Scholes ’keeper kept the score down to 3-0 at the interval.
Scholes reduced the arrears just five minutes after the restart, before some sloppy defending allowed the hosts to draw level thanks to two quick goals as the game edged towards extra-time.
However, more indecision in the Heyside box allowed Scholes to bag the winning goal with just three minutes remaining.
