TABLE TENNIS:
WHILE title-winners Glodwick ‘A’ swept aside Honeywell ‘A’ 9-1, the two teams duelling for runners-up spot in Division One of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League endured mixed fortunes.
Saddleworth ‘A’ lost 6-4 at Glodwick ‘B’ despite a treble from Nick Mooney. But Hollinwood ‘A’ enjoyed a 9-1 victory at Hyde ‘A’ to move two points ahead of their rivals for second place.
Both teams play against their ‘B’ club colleagues in the final round of fixtures.
Hyde ‘A’ will be joined by Honeywell ‘B’ in Division Two next season after a 6-4 defeat at Saddleworth ‘B’, but they will be replaced by their ‘C’ team.
In Division Two, the leading pair met at Honeywell ‘C’, with the hosts beating Rosehill 7-3.
Rob Carter (three), son Paul (two) and Matt Kelly secured the success, while Simon Collins (two) and Philip Ashworth replied.
With one match remaining, the title hopefuls are locked on equal points, but Rosehill are on top thanks to more wins over the season.
Also on the same number of points are third-placed Werneth ‘B’ and Saddleworth ‘C’, in fourth.
The former won 6-4 at Saddleworth courtesy of doubles from Mick Pellowe and Karen Hill and a Paul Wilkinson single. Gary Crossley registered another treble in reply.
Mike Brierley registered a fine hat-trick as Unison ‘A’ beat Uppermill ‘A’ 6-4.
Dennis Taylor and Mark Simpson won two each for the ’Mill.
