ANGLING: FORMER Oldham angler Pete Mottram collected first place in the latest Todmorden AS members’ match on Croft Fishery, where tip and bread accounted for a superb 50lb 12oz catch of carp.

Wayne Richmond was second with his pole and pellet approach working well for 43lb of mainly carp.

GEOFF Ogden (Tight Lines, Shaw) won the Devines Fishery open match with his 53lb catch made up of carp and skimmers all falling to pellet. There was a drop to second-placed Dean Pickering (Tight Lines), who caught skimmers on maggot fished at 11 metres to weigh in 24lb 8oz.

THE Middlewich teams of four spring league on the Trent and Mersey Canal was a cracker, with Ted Carter winning with 30 points, followed by a tie for second between Tricast Highfield and Team Guinness with 24.

The Tricast team was made up of Failsworth-based Ken Power, James Cantello and Tameside anglers Shaun Paddon and Dave Holland.

Individual winner was Ian Morris with a 20lb 10oz net of big roach which fell to caster fished right over from his peg under the lock. Martin O’Neill employed the same method to be second with 15lb 11oz.

MY Sunday match was the penultimate fixture in the Wigan teams-of-four spring league on the Scarisbrick lengths of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

I managed to catch 40 tiny roach for 1lb 4oz, giving me a midway finish in my section.

My team-mate, John Leeds (Tricast Rochdale) took the main honours with an excellent net of roach which fell to bread punch and caster fished at six and 11 metres to weigh in 10lb 12oz.

Teamwise Tricast Rochdale Black triumphed, with Leeds and Dave Wells leading the individual standings and receiving good back-up from Dean Turner and Paul Smith.

LAST reminder that your Environment Agency licence ran out on March 31.

Don’t do as I did and set off for a match before realising that you had not bought a licence.

I ended up missing a match because of this — despite reminders for

everyone else, I forgot my own!

Licences can be bought over the counter at all main Post Offices.
