IN CONTROL . . . Dynamos’ man-of-the-moment Kyle McGovern makes his presence felt.
Failsworth Dynamos 3, Old Blackburnians 1
FOOTBALL: THE premier division title of the Lancashire Amateur League might be out of reach, but the drive to finish as runners-up was evident in a comfortable Failsworth win against Old Blackburnians at Failsworth Soccer Centre.
Champions three seasons ago, Dynamos are determined to maintain their profile in a competitive league.
Dynamos’ defender Johnny Gordon was unfortunate to turn the ball into his own net to hand the lead to Blackburnians early on. But there was hope for Dynamos five minutes before the break when a Blackburnians player was dismissed after being shown a second yellow card.
Hope became reality four minutes after the restart when Anthony Robinson levelled the score with a crisp 20-yard drive, following a neat lay-off from Terry Qualters.
But the day belonged to Kyle McGovern who, on his 18th birthday, gave his side the lead with a 30-yard drive following a powerful run from inside his own half, cappaing a competent display from the birthday boy.
It was 3-1 to Dynamos with four minutes remaining when Qualters fired home a loose ball from the edge of the box.
