TOUGH DAY for Saints’ Carl Sneyd.
RUGBY:
OLDHAM St Anne’s slipped to their first defeat of the Kingstone Press Cider National Conference League Division Two season as they went down 34-0 at fellow promotion hopefuls Pilkington Recs.
The first quarter was evenly balanced with both sides playing attractive rugby and completing their sets along with some hard-hitting tackles.
After 22 minutes Pilks’ open-side prop forward Danny Halsall opened the scoring, his try converted by Danny Lynch.
On the half hour Lynch picked up a failed Saints interception and raced to the other end of the field for a six-pointer and 12-0 half-time lead.
Saints tried to get back into the game in the second half but the hosts continued to increase their score.
With nine minutes left, Kris Bell was sin-binned and the Pilks took advantage of the extra man to add two more tries and goals
