FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD made it back-to-back Manchester League Premier Division wins with an exhilarating attacking home display as they thumped Rochdale Sacred Heart 6-3.
The visitors struck first after only five minutes, but ’Head were soon level as Gareth Shaw played in James Curley who rounded the last defender before smashing past the ’keeper.
The home side then made it 2-1 after 15 minutes when Paul Stevenson found himself unmarked in the box to slot home for his first goal of the season.
’Head were now well on top and made it 3-1 after 25 minutes with a fantastic right-foot effort from Ryan Fagan.
Rochdale struck back to make it 3-2, but ’Head’s response was immediate: Fagan’s cross found Leighton Stephenson to prod home for 4-2. Fagan made it five with a glorious chip over the ’keeper.
The second half saw ’Head continue to create chance after chance, but a combination of poor finishing and fine goalkeeping kept the scoreline respectable. Rochdale made it 5-3 on the hour mark and in the 75th minute, ’Head completed the scoring with a volley from 15 yards from Gary Shaw.
