CRICKET: TWO of the three new clubs in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League have home advantage on the opening day of the 2014 season tomorrow.
Whalley Range, winners of last year’s Manchester and District Association title, play host to Uppermill, for whom overseas amateur Cloete Buitendag will make his debut after flying in from South Africa this week.
First up for Wythenshawe is a visit by Greenfield, while the league’s other newcomers, South-West Manchester, go to Shaw.
Reigning champions Heyside, including new professional Shadley van Schalkwyk, entertain a Droylsden side featuring the return of Michael Schofield.
Meanwhile, Imran Aslam will be mindful to walk into the correct dressing room. The Pakistani pro heads back to last term’s employers Austerlands - but now as Saddleworth’s pro!
Tomorrow’s fixtures: Austerlands v Saddleworth; Glodwick v Friarmere; Heyside v Droylsden; Micklehurst v Hollinwood; Shaw v South-West Manchester; Stayley v Moorside; Whalley Range v Uppermill; Wythenshawe v Greenfield.
