Final woe for Saints

RUGBY: ROCHDALE Mayfield won the Standard Cup final against Oldham St Anne’s after shaking off the disappointment of last year.
The National Conference Division One side was beaten 25-24 by Waterhead 12 months ago. This time they made certain there would be no slip-ups against opposition from a lower division.
Mayfield took the lead in the seventh minute and retained it throughout. Chances came for St Anne’s, but at crucial moments they made too many errors.
The last quarter saw Rochdale dominate the proceedings, running in three tries. Centre Carl Abrahams wrapped up the scoring with a well-deserved try. Quanci won the Ben Powell Trophy for the most outstanding player.
FITTON Hill Bulldogs broke their duck in Division Three of the North-West Men’s League with a terrific 24-20 win over Little Hulton.
A two-try, man-of-the-match effort by Aaron Flemings and scores from Paul Turner and Anthony Hilton clinched victory. All four tries were converted by Chris Brown.
In Division Two, St Anne’s are still on the look-out for their second win of the season after losing 50-40 at home to Accrington Panthers.
